What says you?
I shy away from lists because as you know I am a spontaneous strawberry. Lists tie me down. I am also a perfectionist (don't laugh). A perfectionist has to do things "to perfection." I AM a perfectionist but I'm also a realist. I know there is no way I'm gonna get that thing done perfectly so why bother?! Another trait of a perfectionist is that every single aspect has to be perfectly "right." The right time, the right place, the right frame of mind, etc. I might have mentioned this before but years ago I bought a toy for my kids. I was holding back letting them play with it because I wanted the clear up the "perfect" spot for it. Needless to say the perfect spot never came to fruition and finally the children asked if they could play with it. I said "yes" because I was just plain tired and that would be a game they could play and leave me alone! LOL Unfortunately I didn't have "the perfect place" set up for that game and consequently we all (can't just blame the kids) lost parts to that game.
So I ask: wouldn't a list be better than just flying by the seat of your pants? Even if we didn't get to ALL the items on the list, we could at least knock off some of them?
Another question: is a list the same as a schedule?
1. Wake up or 7 a.m. Wake up
If you are a perfectionist and don't wake up at 7 a.m.- all is lost! You've just screwed up the whole day! BUT if you just have on your list to "wake up"- then all is NOT lost and God-willing, you DID wake up; it doesn't matter if it were 7 a.m. or 10:30 a.m....just move on to the next item on your list.
2. Eat breakfast or 7:30 eat breakfast.
To a perfectionist, if we miss breakfast at 7:30, damn, I'm a failure. I couldn't even wake up at 7 a.m. and eat breakfast at 7:30! "I think I'll run over to Dunkin Doughnuts and dunk my sorry self in a coffee and long john!" Whereas if number 2 on the item is to eat breakfast, brunch is just as sufficient.
I like this idea. I think a schedule is what ties me down, not a list. Today the list will be my friend and screw the whole schedule idea. Note: this will not work if you work outside the home. Just saying. You will definitely need to get up at a certain time and eat breakfast at a certain time, otherwise you can forget about ever having that coffee and doughnuts from the Dunkin' Place!
P.S. My jacket is still not complete! I am putting it on my list, but it will be down toward the bottom of the list. I have to clean and cook today. We are having a party on Friday and my procrastinator self is ready to hold off everything till Friday morning. My multiple selves battle with each other. It's like having a daycare inside my head!
Speaking of jackets, let me show you the other "unfinished" products in the class. See! I wasn't the only one.
