Graini-Aunt says "get yer butt in gear!" Okay, she really didn't say it like that, but I got the gist- BLOG!!! I love that at least one person is reading this blog.
I have been out of pocket for a while. I know I am not busier than the next person, but multi-tasking has never been one of my strong suits.
Last Friday, I traveled down to see Graini-Mom and Graini-Granny and spend a couple of days with them. We had a great time and I turned off most hand-helds and screens, if you get my drift. I was "in the moment," a term I use with my youth group during our meetings. (It is so easy to drift your attention to a phone or TV while in the presence of family and/or friends.) We ate breakfast tacos together and laughed and talked and had a great time. I got to see breakfast friends I had not seen in a long time. It was so good to reconnect.
The next day I was able to be with even more friends and enjoyed my time with my two Moms. It is an affair I want to do again and soon. That generation is used to spending time in the moment, making eye contact, and produced great storytellers.
Monday night I was in a different city about 4 hours away and while my company of friends was laughing and talking and being in the moment, I noticed a group of teens and all 4 were watching something or playing something on their phones. Now maybe our new generation can "be in the moment" while watching Youtube on the phone and still handling a conversation-- truly multi-tasking, but I have never ever been able to do it.
In 8th grade, Pansy and I sat in the front row during our Social Studies class with Mr. Rodriguez. As young girls will do, we were talking...on the front row...while Mr. R was lecturing. He asked a question....I was engrossed with our gossip and didn't hear him. Without missing a beat, Pansy answered the question. WHAT???? You heard the question...and what he was lecturing about to answer the question? And could still hear what I was saying??? THAT is definitely not MY super power.
So, be in the moment. Cherish family and friends. Put down the phone and look into someone's eyes. And I will do the same. That, and try to get back to blogging on a regular basis! ;)
